Terminology

Have you gone shopping for a computer and been utterly confused by the list of terms? You are not alone. Let’s break down what the terms look like and mean.

Intel Core-i3 10100F 3.6GHz  – There are several versions of Intel chips and are referred to as cores. Today, core i3 is an older version now, most of the newer cores are i5 or i7 or i9.
GTX 1650 4G – This is a video card, specifically a gaming video card, many specialty video cards will have a name and model and specs, most “built-in” video cards will say Intel or AMD.
500GB SSD – Hard Drives come in various sizes and may be regular drives (platter) or SSD (Solid State Drives).  The 500 GB means that this drive is 500 gigs in size. This indicates storage space, think picture storage. Newer drives are 1TB or more. Most people would find a 500 gig drive more than adequate storage space for many years.
8G 3000 – This is referring to RAM or Random Access Memory, the 8g means there is 8 gigs worth of this memory. Think about what you see on the screen, that is what RAM does, it shows you what is on the screen. You want at least 8g or 8 gig of RAM.
WiFi, – this is saying this unit has built in Wifi or wireless connectivity. It might also say it as a wired connection.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit – this is the operating system. There are a few different versions, Windows Home, Windows Pro or several different Linix versions.
